PRESSES

Machine presses is a forming press device also known as press – it is a tool that changes shape of metal by the application of pressure. There are different types of presses such as Hydraulic, Mechanical or Pneumatic machines. They can be used as forging presses, stamping presses, press brakes, punch press etc… The mechanical press uses a connected crankshaft that will cycle the ram. The hydraulic press works by using pressurized hydraulic fluid. They can also vary by their structure – Eccentric / crank presses, Knuckle-joint presses, screw presses, … and controllability – conventional or servo presses (electro-press driven by AC servo motor). Servomechanism has low energy consumption – the torque is converted via ball screw into linear force. This way the process of stamping can deliver higher tonnage compared to a mechanical press.

Press brake bends sheet metal into desired shape. They can have CNC controls. Stamping press uses die, press frame, bolster plate and ram. The most common mechanical and hydraulic presses are C-frame (gap-frame) and H-frame (straight-side). Important parameters are power (force, tonnage), table dimensions, ram stroke,…
